The main idea behind Sakasama no Patema is that there are two societies, each of which perceives the other's world to be upside-down (holy perspective, Batman!). This story seed which drives the whole movie is either completely wonky or amazingly fantastical, depending on how you view it. I find that there's a thin line between the two.
